Submission Guidelines
- All texts should be unpublished.
- Texts may be written in Catalan, Spanish, English, French, Italian and Portuguese.
TEXT MODALITIES
- Three text modalities will be considered:
• Papers consisting on an ethnographic analysis and/or theoretical reflections: they must contain between 8.000 and 12.000 words, including footnotes and bibliography. Besides, the author should provide up to 5 keywords and an abstract containing no more than 150 words, in three languages (Catalan, Spanish and English) if possible.
• Reviews on books, MA dissertations and PhD dissertations (thesis): their length should be between 2.000 and 3.000 words. A bibliographic table should be also provided containing: (1) for book reviews: title, author, publication year and city, editor; (2) for dissertation reviews: title, author, academic institution, year.
• Ethnographic notes: this section is intended for texts discussing the methodological and human aspects of fieldwork. They may deal with issues such as the access to the ethnographic setting, the ethnographer’s status, research techniques, ethical implications of carrying out fieldwork, the registration, management and analysis of data… A special stress should be placed on the author’s specific experiences which might be applied to other research processes. The text’s length should be between 4.000 and 5.000 words. A bibliographic table should be also provided containing: title of the research project, geographical location, fieldwork period.
WAY AND FORMAT OF THE FILES SENDING
- Texts and supplementary materials must be sent in a single e-mail to: redaccio@con-textos.net.
- The text document must be sent in an open format file such as RTF (Rich Text Format .rtf) or ODF (Open Document Format .odt). [NOTE: If your text processor does not have any of those formats as default, we recommend you to check the saving options and select one of the mentioned formats]
TEXT FORMAT
- The text format must be as follows: Arial or Times New Roman typographies with body 10, simple interlineal spacing (1 line), and no indentation or extra spacing between paragraphs; you must avoid bold letters and italics may be limited to punctual uses such as foreign words or emic concepts; all quotes (oral or textual) must be in inverted commas (don’t use italic letters).
- Section titles must be numbered hierarchically without using any extra text format such as capital or bold letters (ex.: 1. Title; 1.1. Title; 1.1.1. Title;...). There must be a blank line between the end of one section and the title of the following one, but not between the title and its following text.
- Footnotes should be minimised as much as possible. They should be numbered consecutively and placed at the foot of the page. Any acknowledgement or explanation on the origins of the text should be included as a first footnote linked to the title.
- The document’s first page must include (in this order): title of the paper, author(s)’ full name, academic training, academic position, e-mail address, telephone number. [NOTE: If the text is eventually released, the author’s e-mail address and academic position will appear next to his/her name. Sending the text means accepting the publication of such details]
- Abstracts, keywords and bibliographic tables should be included at the end of the text, after the bibliography list.
IMAGES AND TABLES
- Images should be in JPEG format and attached to the same e-mail. Every table or chart must be included in its own RTF (Rich Text Format .rtf) or ODF (Open Document Format .odt) file, different from the one containing the text, but attached to the same e-mail. Images and tables should be numbered and their precise location should be indicated within the text by means of a note in brackets.
- The whole text, images and tables should not exceed the size limit of a single e-mail.
BIBLIOGRAPHY
- The references appearing in the text and the bibliography list (in alphabetical order and placed at the end of the text) should follow the model showed below.
PUBLISHING CONDITIONS
- All texts will be published under the terms of a Creative Commons licence Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivate Works 2.5 Spain. This licence allows copying, distributing and publicly displaying the texts, provided that they are not intended for commercial aims, that derivate works are not produced and that the authorship, the original title, the name, the issue and the website of the journal are recognised. - Comments should contain between 250 and 1500 words, including bibliography.
- Bibliographic references where used should follow the style model specified below.
- As with other texts, comments will be published under a Creative Commons licence Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivate Works 2.5 Spain.
- The Editorial Board of (con)textos reserves the right not to publish submitted comments when these do not respect these formal criteria, or when they lack minimum quality standards of seriousness and scientific rigor.
References and bibliography
[Taken and translated from the document “Instruccions per al treball de recerca del segon any de doctorat”, of the Departament d’Antropologia Cultural of the Universitat de Barcelona, by professor Ferran Estrada (2005), available at www.ub.edu/antropo/doctorat/Formularis/Instruccions_Treball_2on.pdf]
References will be included following the author-year system. The author’s name, publication year and pages will be indicated within the text. These are some examples for applications of the author-year system in a text:

A single bibliographic list containing all references will be included at the end of the text. These references are ordered according to the main elements in the author-year system. Thus, the first criterion is the alphabetical order of authors (surnames). Then, the chronological order (publication year), and finally the alphabetical order of titles. When more than a reference for the same author and year is included, a letter is added to the publication year:
